The UK rarely faces cases at the European Court of Justice, and when it does it is more likely to win them than almost any other member state, a report released on Friday by the Institute for Government, Who’s afraid of the ECJ?, concludes.
Commenting, Darren Jones MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Brexit is already damaging our economy and the situation will only get worse with the Government’s reckless decision to drag us out of the Single Market and the Customs Union.
“Brexiters in the Cabinet are putting an ideological obsession with judicial sovereignty before the jobs and living standards of working people. Their priorities are totally wrong and will make families worse off.
“As this report makes clear, the European Court of Justice is hardly the monster of Eurosceptic imagination – the UK wins more cases there than almost any other EU country. The idea of total sovereignty is a myth that will never be realised under any Brexit deal, so ministers need to drop their red line and negotiate to keep Britain in the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
