Commenting on the news that retail sales fell by 1.2% in May, Peter Kyle MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Working people are feeling the pinch thanks to the Brexit squeeze. The rise in inflation caused by the Brexit vote is clearly having a negative impact on household spending power and, now, on our retail industry.
“Brexit is making working people worse off – totally contrary to what Vote Leave promised. It is vital now that the Government prioritises our economy in the Brexit talks, rather than sacrificing it on the altar of cutting immigration.
“To prevent further damaging price rises, the Government needs to keep us in the Single Market and the Customs Union, which deliver totally free trade with the European Union.”
