Commenting on news that Theresa May is being urged to prepare to walk away from the Brexit negotiations, Peter Kyle MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Theresa May must slap down the irresponsible Brextremists who are telling her to walk away from the negotiations with the EU without a deal. It was she who agreed to the timing and sequencing of these talks, and if they are going wrong that is her responsibility.
“It would be an unmitigated disaster for this country. Businesses would face punishing tariffs, food prices would rocket, our security cooperation with Europe could collapse and we would see a hard border in Ireland, threatening the peace process. And millions of EU citizens living in Britain, and British citizens living in the EU, could lose their rights.
“The only way to kick-start the negotiations and protect our economy and our security is for the Government to drop their red lines and keep Britain in the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
