Commenting on reports that the Government is set to remove foreign students from their net migration target, Norman Lamb MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“It is encouraging that the Government appears to finally be listening to the voices of businesses, universities, and MPs from across the political spectrum, in agreeing to exempt students from the net migration target.
“The Government's obsession with cutting immigration at the expense of our knowledge economy has always been sheer lunacy. If enacted, it would cut off our businesses from the skills they need, damaging our economy and putting jobs at risk.
“This is a good start but it would be greatly enhanced if it was followed up by the dropping of the damaging immigration target.”
