Commenting on Michel Barnier’s speech in Dublin earlier today, Chris Leslie, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The EU’s commitment to keeping the Irish border open to people and to trade is welcome, and the UK Government must do everything it can to prevent any return to the borders of the past.
“Michel Barnier was clear that no country that leaves the Single Market can keep the ‘exact same benefits’ as Single Market membership. This clearly contradicts the Government’s position.
“To protect jobs and growth, and to ensure the maintenance of an open border in Ireland, the Government needs to think again and negotiate to keep Britain in the Single Market after Brexit.”
