This afternoon, the Scottish Parliament voted by 69 to 59 to request permission from the UK Government to hold another referendum on Scottish independence. Commenting, Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“By pandering to the right-wing fringes of her own party, and aiming our country for the hardest of hard Brexits, the Prime Minister has given the SNP the excuse they were looking for to hold another divisive referendum on independence.
“Leave campaigners like Michael Gove promised that Brexit would strengthen the Union. Instead, the relationship between Scotland and the rest of our United Kingdom is once again in jeopardy.
“The Government need to craft an approach that strengthens our Union and preserves the vital trade links between the UK and the EU to protect jobs. That means membership of the Single Market, not a rush towards hard Brexit.”
