Commenting on the Exiting the European Union Select Committee’s call for the Government to guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in Britain, Pat McFadden MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Since the referendum, the situation for EU citizens here and UK citizens elsewhere in the EU has been very uncertain. This is causing great anxiety.
“The report urges the Government to take a big step towards resolving this issue by clarifying the status of EU citizens without waiting for the Article 50 negotiations. The Select Committee’s call for the Government to do this was supported across the political parties and by supporters of Leave and Remain alike.
“It is the UK which is suing for divorce here, and a first move from us would give important reassurance to EU citizens, and could generate goodwill for the negotiations to come.”
