Commenting on David Davis’ statement in the House of Commons on the latest round of Brexit negotiations, Ian Murray MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Brexit Secretary spent his entire statement brilliantly rebuking comments made by his colleagues and indeed himself.
“He said that ‘nobody pretended this would be simple or easy’, when the International Trade Secretary said just weeks ago that a deal with the EU would be ‘one of the easiest in human history’. David Davis himself said last year that Brexit would be so easy we could sign trade deals with global partners before Britain even leaves the EU.
“Cynical Brexiteers have spent months pretending that Brexit would be a piece of cake, but now reality has intruded and the process is turning into a chimps tea party. Their unrealistic expectations and refusal to face the facts increases the likelihood that Britain could leave the EU with a bad deal – or even no deal – putting jobs and people’s livelihoods at risk.”
