Commenting on the triggering of Article 50 tomorrow, Anna Soubry MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“When Article 50 is invoked, the phony war will end and the mandate of the referendum will have been delivered. Britain will begin walking the path of Brexit, and the wishes of those who voted to Leave in the referendum will have been honoured. But this is the beginning, not the end.
“It is crucial that in this two year period the voices and concerns of those who want to preserve close links between Britain and Europe are not shouted down and silenced, and that those with power over this process are held to account.
“What matters now is what form Brexit takes, and whether the promises made during the referendum campaign and after it are fulfilled. We should remember that while there is a mandate for Brexit, there is no mandate for hard Brexit.
“As the real Brexit process begins, and some of the rhetoric we have heard over the last year collides with the reality of Brexit, it is vital that MPs of all parties do what they can to fight for an open, tolerant future for Britain.”
