Streeting – On workers’ rights, today underlines just how weak Theresa May really is

The Prime Minister gave a statement to the House of Commons today in order to discuss last week’s EU Council summit.

During questions from MPs following the statement, the Prime Minister repeatedly refused to rule out scrapping the EU-derived Working Time Regulations.

Commenting on today’s news, Wes Streeting MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“Today has underlined just how weak Theresa May really is. She repeatedly refused to rule out scrapping the EU-derived Working Time Regulations, which guarantee vital protections for UK workers like paid holidays and limits on working hours.

“Meanwhile her promises about getting a trade deal with the EU that gives us the ‘same benefits’ as we currently enjoy were again exposed as a complete fantasy.

“She is at the mercy of the Brextremists in her own party, who are steering us towards a disastrous, low-regulation Brexit that almost nobody voted for.

“Confronted with these new facts, people are right to keep an open mind about whether this is the right path for our country.”
