Commenting on Sir Ivan Rogers’ appearance at the House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee today, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Government would do well to heed Ivan Rogers’ realism and experience, rather than dismissing him and indulging in magical thinking about unrealistically speedy trade deals.
“Brexit is going to take hard negotiation, and the top priority for those negotiations should be securing a deal with the EU that does not erect new tariffs or barriers to trade between the UK and Europe.
“The Government have promised the exact same benefits from a trade deal as we get from the Single Market, and they must now deliver on that or face leaving the country poorer.”

David Davis, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, has said that he wants the post-Brexit free trade agreement between the UK and EU to deliver the “exact same benefits” as our current membership of the Single Market and the Customs Union: https://twitter.com/mattholehouse/status/823880881156849668.
