UK car production fell during September, driven by a 14% drop in domestic demand, figures by the SMMT show today.
Commenting, Phil Wilson MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“These figures show Brexit has left Britain’s car industry sputtering by the side of the road, while our international competitors zoom past in the outside lane.
“The total lack of certainty over our future relationship with Europe – by far Britain’s biggest trading partner – is acting as a brake on investment and is causing consumer demand to dry up.
“Ministers must act to support our economy and protect manufacturing jobs. That has to mean dropping their ideological red lines and negotiating to keep Britain in the Single Market and the Customs Union for the long term.”
