Alexander – May must use Florence speech to put Single Market and Customs Union back on the table

Commenting ahead of Theresa May’s speech in Florence tomorrow [Friday], Heidi Alexander MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“It’s staggering that the Government have taken over a year to accept the blindingly obvious. We will need a transition period and we will have to be realistic about our financial obligations before talks can progress.

“The clock is still ticking and the Government is in danger of simply replacing one cliff edge with another, as we still have absolutely no idea what our future trading relationship with the EU will be.

“The Government needs to overhaul its so-far shambolic approach to Brexit. They should start by ditching their threat to leave the EU with no deal at all, and by putting continued membership of the Single Market and the Customs Union back on the table.”
