The Evening Standard is reporting that Theresa May personally vetoed Cabinet requests for more visas for overseas doctors to fill empty NHS posts.
Commenting, Ben Bradshaw MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign and member of the parliamentary Health and Social Care Committee, said:
“At a time when the NHS is struggling with a serious staffing crisis, Brexit is only going to make it worse. And now we learn the Prime Minister herself is opposed to giving visas to doctors who want to come here and work in our health service.
“People voted for extra money for the NHS, not for it to be undermined and weakened. With Brexit increasingly a threat to the health of our NHS, we need a People's Vote on the terms of the final Brexit deal.”
