Commenting on the publication tomorrow (Thursday) of the Government’s Brexit position paper on data, Tom Brake MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Government’s approach to these position papers is becoming farcical. On data, yet again we see a total lack of detail. All we know is that the Government intends to spend time, money and effort trying to replicate the situation we have now.
“But as even the Home Office know, no EU deal on data with any other country matches the benefits of being a member state of the European Union. Copying current arrangements will be harder still given the Government’s policy of leaving the Single Market. They will be impossible under the Government’s threat to leave the EU with no deal at all.
“The Government’s waffle and obfuscation is no longer sustainable. On data, our businesses, citizens and police and intelligence services desperately need clarity, not vague platitudes.”
