Bryant – Corbyn should commit to Single Market membership to protect jobs, rights & living standards

Commenting on Jeremy Corbyn’s speech at Labour Party Conference today, Chris Bryant MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“Jeremy Corbyn was right to condemn the Government’s plans for a hard and destructive Brexit in his speech and to call for a deal with the European Union that protects jobs, rights and living standards.

“It is also vital that we secure unimpeded access to the EU Single Market, which is what Jeremy Corbyn guaranteed in his speech. The fact is that the only way this can be achieved is by continuing full membership of the Single Market and the Customs Union in the long term. There is no alternative model that can avoid putting jobs, rights and living standards at risk.

“For jobs, for the rights of working people, and for living standards, it is essential that the Labour put clear red water between the Party and the Government, and commit to Single Market and Customs Union membership going forward. A failure to do so risks making the Labour Party passive spectators in a Brexit catastrophe organised by the Conservative Government.”
