Bryant – NHS is being damaged by Government game-playing on rights of EU nationals

Commenting on Jeremy Hunt’s speech to Conservative Party Conference today, Chris Bryant MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“Our NHS and our social care system would simply collapse without the work of 150,000 EU nationals in healthcare in Britain.

“The Health Secretary’s warm words cannot make up for the fact that, nearly 18 months after the referendum, the Government have still failed to guarantee the rights of EU nationals living in our country.

“This shameful game-playing with peoples’ lives is putting our NHS in jeopardy, as the number of EU nationals coming to work here as nurses and midwives has already fallen by a shocking 96% since the referendum.

“Vote Leave promised Brexit would boost our NHS, but it seems increasingly likely that it will break it through staff shortages. And the extra £350m a week promised by Boris Johnson is still nowhere in sight.”
