Responding to Tony Blair’s comments today, where he said that Britain should stay in the Single Market after Brexit while reforming the free movement of people, Mary Creagh MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
"Tony Blair has thrown down a challenge to the Government. Why voluntarily abandon what is best for our economy when remaining in the Single Market while reforming the free movement of people may be possible?
"Leaving the Single Market would leave our economy flat on its back. Businesses would face greater barriers to trade, putting exports and jobs at risk and increasing prices in the shops.
"Instead of painting themselves into a corner with their own red lines, Ministers need to put the economy and jobs at the heart of the Brexit negotiations, and that means putting Single Market membership back on the table."
