Commenting on Theresa May’s meeting today with business leaders from the EU and the UK, Mary Creagh MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Theresa May has clearly failed to reassure businesses in Britain and on the Continent that Brexit will not lead to a destructive cliff-edge, which would damage trade and put jobs at risk. As the head of the CBI has said, it is time for the Government to move beyond warm words.
“Ministers must start by ending their damaging threat to leave the EU with no deal. Then, they should end their dogmatic insistence that Britain must leave the Single Market and the Customs Union, and negotiate instead to retaining the closest trading relationship with Europe.
“If they do not do so, and our economy continues to suffer as a result, voters have every right to think again about whether to continue hurtling towards the hard Brexit cliff-edge, or whether to press the brake pedal.”
