The Migration Advisory Committee, a public body that advises the government on migration issues, has published its interim report today on EEA nationals in the UK workforce.
Commenting, Stephen Doughty MP, member of the Home Affairs Select Committee and leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“This report should be a wake-up call to the Prime Minister, whose net migration target would be nothing short of disastrous for our economy and our public services.
“The Government’s own advisory body could not be clearer that the idea that EU nationals working in the UK are heavily suppressing local wages is simply not true.
“The report also shows the extent of the concern being felt by employers across all sectors about future restrictions on access to the best talent after we leave the EU.
“The Prime Minister must look at the evidence and change course – that means dropping her ridiculous net migration target, protecting the rights of all those who have made their home in Britain, and prioritising jobs and the economy in the Brexit negotiations.”
