Doughty – Consumer confidence fall shows Brexit squeeze is tightening

Consumer confidence has hit its lowest level since immediately after last year’s EU referendum, according to a survey published today by YouGov and the Centre for Economics and Business Research.

Commenting, Stephen Doughty MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“Working families are clearly feeling the pinch as the Brexit squeeze tightens.

“Since the vote to leave the EU last year, confidence in the UK economy has plummeted, resulting in a weak pound and skyrocketing inflation. At the same time, uncertainty about our future relationship with the EU is damaging investment and hurting business, keeping wage growth down.

“Nobody voted to become poorer. As new facts emerge about the complexity of Brexit, and as it becomes ever clearer that Brexit is hitting families in the pocket, voters have the right to keep an open mind about whether this is really the best future for our country.”
