International Trade Secretary Liam Fox delivered a speech to the EEF, The Manufacturers’ Organisation. In it, he said that his government is opposed to putting up new trade barriers where none currently exist.
Commenting, Stephen Doughty MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Liam Fox is only fooling himself when he says the Government opposes erecting barriers to trade with the EU. That is exactly what the Brexit they are pursuing will do.
“His latest attempt to justify his salary by promising new trade deals is devastatingly undermined by the fact that the Government’s own recently leaked analysis shows that new free trade deals will not come close to compensating for the cost of leaving the Single Market and the Customs Union.
“If Brexit means more barriers to trade and more bureaucracy for businesses, everyone is entitled to keep an open mind about whether it’s the right path for the country.”
