Millions of families would be hit by price rises of more than £500 a year, with the poorest taking the biggest hit if Britain leaves the EU with no deal, a report released tomorrow [Tuesday] by the Resolution Foundation and the University of Sussex makes clear.
Commenting, Stephen Doughty MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“It’s clear that the no-deal Brexit Theresa May is threatening will make working people in this country worse off, with the very poorest paying the price for the Government’s ideological choice of a hard and extreme Brexit.
“Leaving the EU with no deal will erect massive barriers to trade. Given that we import 20 per cent of all the food we eat from Europe, this will make the weekly shop more expensive for working families.
“To prevent the British people becoming worse off, the Government must drop its dangerous threat to leave the EU with no deal, and negotiate to keep Britain in the Single Market and Customs Union to protect our trade with Europe.”
