The rice company Tilda said today that a hard Brexit in which the UK leaves the Single Market and the Customs Union could lead to them having to close their rice mill in Rainham, Essex, putting hundreds of jobs at risk.
Commenting, Stephen Doughty MP, leading supporter of the People's Vote campaign, said:
“More and more businesses are publicly rejecting the idea of sacrificing themselves and their employees on the altar of an ideological hard Brexit.
“Well-known UK businesses like Tilda know that crashing out of the Single Market and the Customs Union will be a disaster for them, and will cost jobs.
“Businesses like Tilda, as well as the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress are united in their rejection of the Government’s hard Brexit plans. That’s why we need a People’s Vote on the terms of the final Brexit deal.”
