Commenting on the news that over 2,700 fewer EU nurses and midwives have been registered as working in the NHS in September, Dr Paul Williams MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Our National Health Service relies on the vital work of doctors, nurses and midwives from across the EU. Put simply, without them the NHS as we know it could not survive.
“The numbers have been falling drastically since the referendum and as we approach winter these shortages are bow becoming severe and are being felt by patients in hospitals the length and breadth of Britain.
“The country was promised more money for the health service in the referendum but increasingly Brexit actually looks like a major threat to the NHS. As we see the damage that is being done, people are right to keep an open mind about where we are heading.”
