Farron – TUC is clear that Britain must stay in the Single Market

The Trades Union Congress has today [Thursday] outlined its five Brexit tests, and concluded that the only option that will pass all of them is continued UK membership of the Single Market.

Commenting, Tim Farron MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“The voice of working people in this country is quite clear that only by staying in the Single Market can we prevent an outcome that would cost jobs, put workers’ rights at risk, and erect a hard border in Ireland.

“Whether you voted Leave or Remain you should be deeply concerned by the Government’s poor handling of the negotiations, which is set to hit working people in the pocket by leaving the Single Market and putting up barriers between Britain and our largest trading partner.

“That is not a future people voted for in the referendum. As the damaging consequences of the Government’s drive for a hard Brexit become clear, people have the right to keep an open mind about whether this is really the best future for our country.”
