England football legend Gary Lineker has backed a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.
Speaking to Nick Clegg on his podcast, Lineker was asked whether he would support the idea of a People’s Vote on the terms of Brexit, once any deal is agreed. He replied “I think common sense says yes. I think definitely.”
Commenting, James McGrory, Executive Director of Open Britain, said:
“Gary Lineker knows a thing or two about finishing and he’s clear that the Brexit process should end where it started, with the people.
“The Match of the Day host is one of an increasing number of people who are concerned about the mess the Brexit negotiations are in and that this is too big an issue to be left to 650 MPs in Westminster to decide on their own.
“The Government has no mandate to impose a hard and destructive version of Brexit on the country, which is why we need a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
