Grove-White – David Davis shouldn’t be playing trick or treat with the threat of a no deal Brexit

Brexit Secretary David Davis is reportedly planning to try and sell an ‘upbeat’ vision of a no-deal Brexit to his Cabinet colleagues on Halloween. This represents a big shift in the Government’s Brexit negotiating strategy and increases the threat of crashing out of the EU without a deal.

Commenting, Francis Grove-White, Deputy Director of Open Britain, said:

“The notion that there is an optimistic assessment of leaving the EU with no deal is as ridiculous as it is dangerous. This is just the latest sign that Ministers are caving in to the arsonists on their back-benches.

“A no deal Brexit would be an economic disaster, creating chaos at our ports and the Northern Ireland border and endangering the rights of millions of EU citizens in the UK as well as UK citizens in the EU.

“The Prime Minister needs to stamp this out and leave David Davis to play trick or treat in his own spare time. She has a duty to secure the best deal for Britain, and that means ruling out the threat of no deal and starting to negotiate for continued membership of the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
