Commenting on Theresa May’s admission this morning that she would be willing to discuss the renegotiation of the Le Touquet border treaty with Emmanuel Macron, Peter Kyle MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“This is just the latest in a long line of broken promises from those who campaigned to leave the European Union.
“They told us we would be no worse off, when the pound’s value has fallen by over 10 per cent since the referendum. They said we would have an extra £350 million a week to spend on the NHS, when the Government’s own forecaster says borrowing will rise by £58bn thanks to Brexit. And they told us Brexit would lead to no change at all in the Calais border arrangements, when the Prime Minister herself admits they are up for renegotiation.
“The Government’s hard Brexit course is putting our economy and our border security at risk. She needs to resist any changes to the Calais agreement that would make life harder for British holidaymakers, businesses, and border control staff.”
