The Government have today admitted serious mistakes in how they have handled the rights of the so-called “Windrush Generation” who came to the UK as British subjects and have since struggled to assert their legal rights to remain in the country.
Commenting, Peter Kyle MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“The Government’s sorry mess over the Windrush Generation is only the tip of the iceberg of the coming shambles if Brexit goes ahead.
“Not only are there millions of EU citizens in Britain whose rights the Home Office will be asked to pass judgement on, but the Government are planning to introduce a massive work permit scheme that everyone knows they are simply incapable of managing.
“As it becomes clearer that Brexit will put more and more power not in the hands of the British people or our Parliament, but of poorly paid and over-worked immigration advisers at the Home Office, the demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal will only grow.”
