Leslie – Debate on Customs Union shows “cross-party opposition to a hard and destructive Brexit is growing”

MPs today approved a motion backing a Customs Union arrangement with the EU, after the Government chose not to oppose it.

Commenting, Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:

“Cross-party opposition to a hard and destructive Brexit is growing, and the Government cannot continue to bury its head in the sand.

“Remaining in the Customs Union is vital for the UK economy, for jobs and for avoiding a hard border in Northern Ireland. That’s why businesses, trade unions and now Parliament have made it very clear that the Government should change course. But time is running out.

“Today’s debate further highlights that the Brexit that is being delivered is not the one that was promised to people during the referendum. That’s why we need a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
