Leslie – Financial services industry being told to “go whistle” for promised position paper

The Financial Times has today (22 January) reported that the government has shelved plans to publish a position paper on financial services, despite repeatedly promising that it would do so.

Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:

“The Government’s Brexit strategy is collapsing. They promise we will have the ‘exact same benefits’ in our trade with the EU as we have now, but they haven’t a clue how to deliver that.

"The financial services industry was promised a position paper from the government but are now being told, in effect, to go whistle for it. The tens of thousands of people who have jobs in this vital sector all across the UK deserve better than this.

“As new facts emerge, it is becoming clear - even to the Government - that the Brexit deal that was promised is not deliverable.”
