Commenting on Mark Carney’s appearance at the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee earlier today, Alison McGovern MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Governor of the Bank of England has slapped down the hard Brexit fanatics who believe we should be relaxed about leaving the European Union with no deal at all. It’s clear that no deal would be a catastrophe, and that it would pose serious problems for the City. And it is highly unlikely a full trade deal will be agreed with the EU by March 2019.
“With inflation running at 3 per cent now, it is crucial that we negotiate a trading relationship with the EU that gives us the exact same benefits as membership, as the Prime Minister has promised.
“The only way to achieve that is for Ministers to negotiate to keep Britain in the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
