The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported today on the state of the UK economy. The Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, said that Brexit is weighing down the UK economy, with GDP growth for 2018 revised down to 1.5%.
Commenting, Alison McGovern MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The IMF could not be clearer – Brexit is already weighing heavily on the British economy.
“Growth is down; inflation is at a six-year high; real wages are falling month after month and we have moved from the fastest growing economy in the G7 before the referendum to the slowest now.
“People are entitled to look at new facts like these, that no-one could have known at the time of the referendum, and ask whether the costs and consequences of Brexit are worth it. If they decide they aren’t, they have every right to change their minds about whether Brexit is really the right path for the country.”
