UK wage growth is continuing to lag behind inflation, new figures released by the Office for National Statistics today show.
Wage growth rose by 2% in the three months to May, well behind the inflation rate of 2.9%.
Commenting, Alison McGovern MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The sizeable Sterling slump after the Brexit vote has caused inflation to soar and is hitting people in the pocket up and down the country.
“The fall in real wages is making people worse off and should focus Ministers’ minds to put the economy and jobs first in the Brexit talks.
“The Brexit squeeze is only going to get worse if the Government continue their path towards a hard and destructive Brexit which pulls us out of the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
