The Home Affairs select committee has today produced a report on immigration, in which it calls on the Government to drop the ‘tens of thousands’ migration target. The report calls on the Government to adopt a more evidence-based approach to immigration policy.
Commenting, Alison McGovern MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Government’s immigration target is little more than a PR gimmick. It is a target that has never been hit and which ministers admit in private never will be hit.
“Instead of using the powers it has under the Single Market to regulate labour markets and exercise real control over migration, the Government prefers to whip up public concern. That must end.
“It is time to drop the divisive and economically damaging immigration target once and for all.”
