The Exiting the European Union Committee today released a report on the EU Withdrawal Bill which was critical of the Government’s approach to the legislation. Specifically, the report criticised the Government’s amendment to fix the date of withdrawal.
Commenting, Ian Murray MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“This report highlights some crucial concerns with the EU Withdrawal Bill which the Government must urgently address.
“The Prime Minister’s desperate attempt to curry favour with her backbenchers by putting the date on the face of the Bill was completely misguided, and the Committee is right to call for it to be dropped. As the negotiations continue to founder, narrowing our options in this way would be a mistake.
“Nobody said that taking back control meant giving Ministers extraordinary powers to change legislation without scrutiny, or to weaken environmental protections or workers’ rights. As they try to drive this legislation through, they must not be given a free ride.”
