Northern Ireland court decision should not reduce Parliament’s role to bystander status

Commenting on the high court decision in Northern Ireland on the triggering of Article 50, Neil Carmichael MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:

“The court decision in Northern Ireland does not mean Parliament’s role ahead of the Brexit negotiations should be reduced to bystander status.

“It is vital that Parliament, and elected representatives in it from all parts of the United Kingdom, are given a say on the Government’s negotiating position before Article 50 is triggered.

“That’s why MPs from across the House are united in their calls for the Government to produce the equivalent of a White Paper with their substantive plans and put it to a vote before they start negotiating on our behalf.”
