The EU is due to publish a draft legal text later today (Wednesday) setting out what it believes are the legal commitments required to uphold the agreement reached in the first phase of Brexit negotiations, the terms of which were confirmed in December last year.
Commenting, Bridget Phillipson MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“The Government’s dangerous and reckless policy of crashing out of the Single Market and the Customs Union is now colliding with reality.
“Ministers have repeatedly promised there will be no change to the situation in Ireland but have offered no credible solutions. Perhaps, like Boris Johnson, they are willing to accept a hard border and the undermining of the peace process as a price worth paying for their ideologically-driven hard Brexit.
“Fudging these key issues and seeking to shift the blame onto others is no longer going to work. If she is serious about maintaining an invisible border the Prime Minister must urgently reconsider the choice she made to take Britain out of the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
