Commenting on Philip Hammond’s assertions that “it would be madness not to seek the closest possible arrangement” with Britain’s largest trading partner and closest neighbour, Roland Rudd, Chairman of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“Philip Hammond is fast emerging as the vital voice of sanity around the Cabinet table. He’s backing British business by aligning with the CBI’s call for a transitional deal that means we don’t fall off the extreme Brexit cliff edge.
“With the EU striking new trade deals, such as with Japan this week, and Canada before that, it’s essential we stay in the Customs Union, otherwise, I’d love to hear how Liam Fox is going to negotiate better UK/Japan deal than EU just secured”
