Streeting - Mayor’s study shows Brexit threatens funding for hospitals

Research published by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has today (11 January) published research that shows thousands of jobs and billions of pounds of investment – and not just in London – are threatened by Brexit.

The report has been published on the same day as NHS Providers have warned that minimum service standards guaranteed by the NHS constitution are no longer deliverable without significant additional public funding.

Commenting, Wes Streeting MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:

"As NHS Providers warn us that we urgently need to invest more in the NHS or scrap minimum care standards, the expert analysis published today by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan warning of the huge financial losses we risk from Brexit, could not be more timely.

"Paying for world class public services means we need a healthy and strong economy and not just in London. Brexit and leaving the Single Market and Customs Union puts any hope of well-funded schools and hospitals and police on our streets under immediate and serious threat.

"It is time the government were honest with us about the risks and at the very least worked to keep us in both the Single Market and Customs Union."
