Streeting – OECD forecast shows hard Brexit will continue to punish the UK economy

The UK economy will grow by just 1% in 2018, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) forecasts today.

Commenting, Wes Streeting MP, leading supporter of Open Britain and member of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, said:

“Today’s OECD analysis should be the final nail in the coffin for the already long-buried notion that Brexit will benefit our economy.

“Projected anaemic economic growth in 2018 represents a significant and damaging slowdown that will hit working families in the pocket and damage our public services.

“A hard Brexit or walking away without a deal would wreak even more punishment on the UK economy. The Government can avoid this if they drop their ideological and self-imposed red lines and start negotiating for continued membership of both the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
