London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called on MPs to back cross-party amendments to the Government’s Withdrawal Bill when it is debated next week in the House of Commons.
The Labour frontbench are currently refusing to support the cross-party amendment on membership of Europe’s economic area.
Commenting, Wes Streeting MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“Sadiq Khan is right to say that leaving the Europe’s economic area will be bad news for the economy and will threaten thousands of jobs and yet we know that London is better placed to weather Brexit than every other part of the UK.
“Putting the interests of working people first requires MPs to vote for the cross-party amendment on EEA membership.
“It would be an enormous mistake for Labour to refuse to support the Lords’ amendment on the EEA.”
