Britain’s nuclear industry regulator is struggling to meet any of its targets to prepare for Brexit, reports Sky News.
Staff recruitment has failed – leading to a lowering of standards expected for new employees – and a new IT system – essential for the lawful trade in nuclear material - is not ready.
Commenting, Gareth Thomas MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign said:
“The fallout from Brexit really is about to go nuclear.
“Every aspect of Brexit is now in a shambles and the fact it appears to threaten safety processes at nuclear installations is the most worrying news yet.
“The fact that the response to these problems appears to be to look for staff with lower skills and less experience only adds to the sense that Brexit is now out of control.
“As new information about the risks and costs of Brexit emerges it is more essential than ever we have a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
