The CBI have made proposals on Britain’s future relationship with the European Union.
Commenting Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“The CBI are absolutely right to say there is no convincing case for leaving the Customs Union.
“Leaving will hurt jobs and businesses in this country and result in a hard border in Northern Ireland. And all in pursuit of fantasy free trade deals, which in reality would take many years to negotiate and will never compensate for lost trade with the EU.
“The CBI are also clear that a Canada-style free trade deal would be disastrous for this country. Given this fact, the only way to truly protect our economy, our businesses and people’s jobs is to stay in both the Single Market and the Customs Union for the long-term.”
