The Chancellor Philip Hammond gave evidence today before the parliamentary European Scrutiny Committee and failed to agree to release the Treasury’s modelling of the costs of Brexit.
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Philip Hammond’s revelation that the Treasury has modelled lost tax take but will not publish their findings is another blatant attempt to hide the truth about the costs of Brexit from the British people.
“Given we were promised more money for our NHS from Brexit, the public have every right to know how much Brexit will cost us all, especially when the Chancellor has admitted we are lavishing hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayer’s money on Brexit contingency planning.
“Nobody voted in the referendum for less money for public services and if that is the Brexit that is delivered, then people have every right to keep an open mind about whether it’s the right choice for our country.”
