Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, speaking at Chatham House this evening (Wednesday), said there would “be no country celebrating more than Ireland” if Britain reconsidered its decision to leave the EU.
He also remarked, “as Donald Tusk has said, the door remains open...if the UK were to change its mind, this would be seen favourably by EU.”
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“This positive intervention by the Irish Foreign Minister underlines that, if we change our mind on Brexit, the message from Europe is clear that the door remains wide open.
“As European leaders queue up to offer us an alternative path, it is vital that people know that Brexit is reversible if we decide to change our minds.
“There’s no doubt that we would be welcomed back across the Continent with open arms.”
