Speaking at the Labour Party's Eastern Region Conference today, Jeremy Corbyn will say that, as far as he is concerned, the question of whether Britain leaves the European Union is now settled. He will say: "Let me say something that should be obvious by now: we are leaving the European Union. The Referendum must and will be respected."
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
“Labour is absolutely right to highlight the dangers posed by an extreme, race-to-the-bottom Brexit. The risks it poses not only to jobs and living standards, but to workers’ rights, the environment, young people’s futures and even the future integrity of the United Kingdom, are huge.
“Faced with the new facts that are emerging about Brexit, the Cabinet can’t even agree among themselves what they want and the chances of a disastrous no deal outcome are growing. Ministers are banking on a quick and dirty trade deal with Trump to try to limit the damage.
“In these circumstances, it is a mistake to rule anything out. The public are right to keep an open mind about where this is all heading, and it is vital that Labour does the same. All options should be kept on the table.”
