Umunna – Lee resignation “hugely significant moment” for People’s Vote campaign

Dr Phillip Lee MP has resigned from the Government over Brexit and said any final Brexit deal “should go to the people, once again, for their confirmation”.

Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:

“The resignation of a Government minister who has immediately gone on to endorse a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal is a hugely significant moment.

“Brexit will affect generations for generations. Brexit is going badly not just because of incompetence but because it is impossible to deliver in the form it was promised, and it is the people of Britain who will suffer the consequences. That is why it is so important that principled politicians from all parties, like Dr Phillip Lee, take a stand now and put country before party. History will not be kind to those who choose to shirk our responsibilities and put their careers first.

“The demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal will only grow. With new facts about the consequences of leaving the EU coming to light every day, it is clearer than ever that Brexit is a big deal, but it is not a done deal.”
