President Macron of France meets Theresa May at Sandhurst on Thursday for the 35th Anglo-French bilateral summit.
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“President Macron’s visit is a reminder of the importance and depth of our relationship with Europe’s democracies.
“Britain and France have been close allies for over a hundred years and faced the greatest tests of the 20th century together.
“The 21st century should not see us in any way weaken the bonds of that deep friendship to chase dreams of new alliances and fantasy trade deals on the other side of the globe.
“Britain’s history and destiny is in Europe. A hard Brexit will only damage these ties and hurt our long-term interests.”
